Taylor Family Update

5 01 2009

So as you may have noticed I haven’t had much time for posting lately.  If you haven’t made the jump over to reading our adoption blog you might want to.  We’ve had some very exciting news!  =)

But I wanted to update with some pictures from the last few months.  They’ve been full of life and fun and soon to be all the more wild!  Enjoy!

Our friends John and Sara joined us for Thanksgiving with their son Malachi.  Sara and I ran a 5k turkey trot. . . it was freezing outside!

We gave Malachi a Harmonic for his bday – lots of fun!

Joshua and I picked up a Christmas tree.  I was very happy to have one!

Joshua got a little tangled up in the lights! =)

We enjoyed some yummy hot cocoas while decorating for Christmas

Our adoption case was finalized in Ethiopia!!!!

We Love you

Here’s our precious daughter Tigist

And our precious son Fekadu!

Counting down the days

4 12 2008

Do you remember making those great paper chains that you tear off a link each day as you count down to Christmas?  I made one of those yesterday with some children I was babysitting.  Well today, I think I’m going to make one for myself.  Only I’m not counting down days until Christmas, but days until we travel to Ethiopia to pick up our kiddos!

We have been given tentative travel dates of January 16-24th!  These will be confirmed by Dec 22nd when we’ll know for sure whether or not we’ve passed court in Ethiopia.  Only 43 days to go!!!!

Home Improvements

25 10 2008

Well here are the much anticipated home improvement photos!  Thank you to Seth, Seita, Hannah, Rebekah, and Rachel who all came out to help us paint. . . we are VERY grateful for all you did! You can see all the photos on the flickr link but here are a few.

Okay so here are the colors I’ve picked.  But pictures uploaded to a computer just don’t do justice!  Argh!

 paint colors

So I’ve picked Green for the accent wall in our son’s room and we’re going to go with an Ethiopian Soccer theme. . . I think. =)  The Ethiopian flag is green, yellow, and red.  So a green accent wall, soccer balls, painting the furniture black and an Ethiopian flag on the wall.  We’ll see how it comes out!

For our daughter I’m still debating between a yellow or purple accent wall.  I really could go either way at this point.  Naomi, a dear friend introduced me to the wonderful idea of wall decals. . . SO COOL!  I thought those great designs were always painted on walls, who knew they were stickers!  I’m still trying to decide on what kind of wall decals I like.

Note to Mom and Melissa:  Either of you want to try to make some curtains for the kids room??? hint hint!  Or even a bed spread??? =)

Our living room and dining room is going to be basically a neutral tan through out with olive green accents.  These are the colors we’ve selected.  The green isn’t quite that bright in real life.

I also found the absolute perfect color for the master bedroom.  We have these really nice curtains and I found a great paint color that goes well with it.  Again in the picture it looks a little gray, but its actually a muted greenish gray tone.

So there you have it!!!  Now who wants to come help paint???  I’m thinking Columbus Day weekend!

Some new curtains and lamps for the living room. . . all you have to envision is nicely painted walls.  Hopefully coming soon!

Check out the major finds I scored at the local thrift store on Labor day.  Everything was 50% off!!!  I got our little boy 7 shirts, 2 pairs of pants, 2 shorts and a swim suit.  Our little girl got 3 jumpers, 3 shirts, a pair of jeans and a some overalls.  Want to wager a guess of how much I spent???

The total came to $36.00.  Yes folks all these wonderful clothes from brands like OshKosh, Gap, Old Navy, Gymboree, and Carter’s for only $36 dollars.  God is good!

Oh the shame of days, ah weeks, no wait. . . over a month gone by with no posts!!!!  For anyone who still occasionally stops by our blog rest assured the Taylors have in fact NOT dropped off the face of the planet.  We have not ceased to exist or crawled under some hole.  In fact life is steaming ahead at a pace I have not experienced in quite some time!

So, since my last post we have moved out of our apartment, into a new townhouse, gone and returned from vacation in Maine, and are slowly but surely trying to get things in order for two new kiddos to join us!

Here’s some fun photos.  All of the craziness can be seen on the flickr link, these are just some highlights

Here’s packing up our old apartment

Now that we’ve returned I’ve started working full time (yes 40 hours a week!) as a nanny.  This is proving more difficult then I thought but I am learning so much and growing more fond of these new kiddos each day.

More to come soon. . . I hope to be a more faithful blogger in the coming weeks, its just that dishes, laundy, housework all seem to take up my evenings now that I’m gone 7:30-5:30!  Alas, life is good! =)
