Charlottesville 1/2 Marathon

17 04 2007

Joshua and I will be joined by our dear friend Laura Mitchell tomorrow who is traveling from Maine to come run the Charlottesville 1/2 Marathon with us. This 13.2 mile race will begin this Saturday morning at 6:30AM in Charlottesville, VA. Laura summed up my thoughts on the upcoming race perfectly in an email she sent me yesterday, “Heck, I’ll run the thing just so I have an excuse to eat like a pig afterwards!” Oh Laura, I can’t wait for you to arrive!!! =)

In need of Grace

16 04 2007

I found myself praying for an “extra” measure of God’s grace this morning.  I was overwhelmed with things to do.  I have not been feeling well, I have office work to do, laundry to put away, a house to organize for a coming guest, and when I turned on my computer this morning I received this error message: Primary master drive failed.  Upon calling the service technician from where the computer was purchased (in Maine) I was informed my hard drive had crashed or was crashing and I needed to bring the computer in.  Well living in Virginia that would be difficult so I called my husband to send out a desperate email imploring friends for the name of a computer technician.

Josh was then told by a co-worker he could just bring the computer into the office and they’d look at it.  Great I thought!  So Josh came home and lo and behold our computer turned on and started working.  A very good thing because we used Turbo Tax and needed to e-file our return today.  And everything was saved on this computer!!!  So, we proceeded to file our return and have had no luck because it seems many others in America have procrastinated in filing their taxes too so we got some all circuits are busy please check back in 24-48 hours message.  ARGHHH!

So this is where my plea for the mercy of God comes in.  As I was attempting to focus my thoughts on God, trusting Him, placing my hope in His sovereignty instead of my genius I had this small thought come into my mind.  “Bethany, are you anymore in need of My grace today then you were yesterday?  Am I any less good to you today?” My heart was brought to this great truth, I am in need of God’s grace every day!  I must see His hand at work in my life on the “good and bad” days.  Then I was reminded of this wonderful truth in scripture: 2 Cor 12:9-10

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.  For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Oh may I glory in Christ alone today. . .He is my All in All!!!

My Easter Weekend

11 04 2007

There is just something about crowding 10 people into a 2 bedroom apartment that makes you feel a bit like your living at the. . . . .zoo

We did visit the National Zoo. . . You can see the other pictures on the flicker site. In all seriousness we absolutely enjoyed and were blessed to have Mom and Dad Blackstone, Melissa, Luke and Anna, Rachel and Josh, and Isaac join Joshua and I this weekend for Easter. (The Middleton’s also feasted with us Sunday afternoon. . .Kristin made a superb Sweet Potato soufflé thing) See everyone’s pictures on Flicker to the right!
